    I am setting up a business, what information do I need to include on my stationery?

    Q. I am setting up a new business. Am I required by law to include any information on emails and my website?A. There is certain information that must be included in your business’s correspondence like letters and emails and also your website.The information required will depend upon the type of business you have, for example a limited Company will have to show its registered name and number and its registered address, but a Partnership will have to include the names of each of its partners. If you are in a regulated profession then you will also have to provide details of any regulatory body or authority that your business may be governed by.Each business must state in legible characters on all business letters, written orders for goods or services to be supplied to the business, invoices and receipts issued in the course of the business and written demands for payment of debts arising in the course of the business:Individual/Sole Trader:
    • his name;
    • address in Great Britain at which service of any document relating in any way to the business will be effective.
    Partnerships of less than 20 partners:
    • Name of each Partner;
    • Address in Great Britain at which service of any document relating in any way to the business will be effective.
    LLP of less than 20 members:
    • its registered name and the name of each Member;
    • the part of the United Kingdom in which the company is registered (eg. England and Wales);
    • the company’s registered number;
    • the address of the company’s registered office
    Company:
    • its registered name
    • the part of the United Kingdom in which the company is registered (eg. England and Wales);
    • the company’s registered number;
    • the address of the company’s registered office;
    • in the case of a limited company exempt from the obligation to use the word “limited” as part of its registered name under section 30 of the Companies Act 1985(1) or article 40 of the Companies (Northern) Ireland Order 1986(2), the fact that it is a limited company
    • address in Great Britain at which service of any document relating in any way to the business will be effective.
    A member of a regulated profession (such as a financial services company or a solicitor) must also provide:
    • the details of any professional body or similar institution with which he is registered.
    • his professional title and the EU member state where that title has been awarded.
    • a reference (ideally through a hyperlink) to the professional rules applicable to the service provider in the member state where he is established. If no hyperlink can be provided, the service provider must explain how such professional rules can be accessed.
