Our story
Hegarty was established over 50 years ago, during a period of significant growth in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
Richard Hegarty founded the firm alongside his father, recognising early on the increasing need for trusted legal support as new homes, businesses and communities began to take shape. Together, they built a practice rooted in local knowledge, experience and strong personal relationships.
From modest beginnings, the firm grew steadily in line with the development of the region, supporting individuals, families and businesses through times of change and opportunity. As demand evolved, so too did the firm, expanding its expertise to offer a full range of legal services for both private clients and businesses.
Over time, this growth has led to the development of a strong regional presence, with Hegarty now operating from five offices across the area, enabling us to remain close to the communities we serve.
As the firm evolved, we were early adopters of a more specialist approach to legal services and among the first to implement recognised quality standards, reflecting a long-standing commitment to excellent service. This commitment extended beyond the firm itself, with involvement in wider developments within the legal profession that helped shape modern standards of practice.
Today, Hegarty is an established regional law firm, but our focus remains unchanged — to provide clear, dependable legal advice, delivered with professionalism and a personal approach. Our team continues to build on these foundations, combining experience and expertise with a modern, client-focused approach.
