Companies House has announced that businesses will be given extra support for their filing requirements. From 22nd April, Companies House has
temporarily paused the strike-off process to prevent companies from being dissolved during this difficult time.Prior to these changes, if a company failed to file its Confirmation Statement when due, Companies House could make an application to strike off the company. Similarly, if a company failed to file its Accounts by the filing deadline, as well as imposing a fine (starting at £150) the registrar could also apply to strike the company from the register. Any company that was struck off the register in either of these circumstances would have to make an application to reinstate, which can be time-consuming and costly and could have an adverse impact on the company’s reputation and/or assets. The changes to the strike-off process will not apply to businesses being dissolved as a result of insolvency. This announcement supports the previous decision to allow companies to apply for a 3-month filing extension for its accounts.
